Most people associate "Irish music" only with drinking songs. Now while it is true that there are Irish drinking songs, they are only a small fraction of Irish songs. But you're probably wondering why I specify "traditonal". You see, there's a major difference between traditional and modern Irish music. How?
These are just a few examples of modern Irish music:
Modern Irish music tends to be rock, with frequent alcohol references. Traditional Irish music, however, has been around for at least a century. It is rich with Irish culture and history, and, while that does include some alcohol reference, it is very minimal. They actually are more about the bitter persecution that they endured at the hands of the British government, and true love.

This genre of music typically displays a very strong Irish characteristic: an immensely courageous determination to hold the ground of freedom, no matter what the cost. And if one loses that ground, then he must fight for it! That is the Irish attitude. I'm into this music because I admire this resolve (and the music's kinda' catchy!), and I believe that we could all learn a thing or two about courage from Irish history and culture.
